The reason this troubles me: this drive is a Seagate "Backup+ Desktop and Mac" which is marketed by Seagate as primarily a Mac drive, but which is compatible with PC. It says: "We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices." It's like the system SEES the drive, but refuses to actually use it.Įven more alarming - recent reports indicate that Win 10 has the ability to disable "unauthorized" devices, based on a very vague wording in the EULA. The weird thing is, all of the tests and advanced reformats were successful, but the problem persists. Thanks Boogieman! Since I can't use it, and can't recover the files, I decided to format through Computer Management as a last-ditch effort, but get the following error: Panicking now, I ran a data recovery program and found most of my files, but they are mostly corrupted and unrecoverable. Also, the drive appears in the "safely remove" menu in the SysTray.
I updated the Seagate dashboard, and it shows the drive, which appears now to be completely empty. Last night I discovered my half-full Seagate Drive was no longer showing up in This PC.
I have a Seagate 2TB Backup Plus drive which has worked great for over a year.
